PRO CHOICE OR AMATEUR CHOICE?

Recently I had Jeff Spencer (trainer of the stars) out to Texas to conduct a
seminar for our "Elite Team" riders. During this seminar, Jeff made it very
clear that your decisions and choices concerning your motocross career come
down to this, Pro choice or amateur Choice. If you have set goals, and have
written a plan to get yourself to the top of the motocross world, then you
must choose the path of pro choices. If you just can’t seem to get yourself
to train or give up the French fries, you must ratchet down your goals and
consider staying an amateur rider. And if you are content with this, then
this choice is perfectly fine. Not everyone is cut out to be the next Ricky
Carmichael or James Stewart. Why can’t we just have fun riding and racing,
right?
But on the other hand, you have decided to make a living and career out of
motocross, and not just want to be an average pro, but a top level pro, it
comes down to a few simple things. First, you must have a certain level of
talent. Next, you must have a high level of desire and motivation. You must
be dedicated and focused to your plan. You must know your results going into
a competition. You must have heart, stamina, intelligence, and all of the
talent characteristics that make up a great athlete. But even if you have
many or all of these, it still comes down to making good solid pro choices.
Now you ask, what are pro choices? Well, it can be as simple as water vs.
Coke. Or as complex as eating foods that compliments your blood type and body type. It’s basically knowing right from wrong, healthy vs. unhealthy, will it
move me towards my goal or away from my goal, or will I take action and be
strong, or let my weaknesses control my destiny.
Let’s jut run through a few examples, just to get you thinking in the right
direction. Every time you do just about anything, ask yourself, is this pro
choice or an amateur choice. Home cooked foods, or fast foods? Natural foods, or processed foods? Good nights sleep, or party late with my friends? Train and work out, or sit on the couch? Learn to work on your bike, or leave it to someone else? Learn to lose graciously, or whine like a baby? Run stock bikes in the stock class, or cheat? Run legal in the mod class, or cheat? Walk in
the pits, or pit bike? Thank your sponsors, or just ask for more stuff?
Complain to the track promoter, or volunteer to help make things better? I am
strong on race day, or I am weak? Accept responsibility for poor results, or
blame everything and everyone else? Attend MX schools, or I already know
everything? Hang out with the eagles, or hang out with the turkeys? Keep to
yourself on race day, or run around being a social butterfly? Drink a good
sports drink, or just plain water? Choose creative lines, or ride the goat
trail? Practice technique drills, or just ride the track?
I can go on forever, but I think by now you get my point. Life is full of
choices, not only in sports, but also in all facets, so choose carefully. The
choices you make will determine who you are. So be a PRO!
